The M25 motorway reopened in Surrey following a lorry fire today (Thursday, December 1). The anti-clockwise carriageway is fully reopened at Junction 10 (Wisley Interchange), as well as between Junction 9 (Leatherhead) and Junction 8 (Reigate).
The closure was in place since around 4am and a traffic diversion was in place. The full closure was lifted after eight hours, but a clean-up operation was needed after the lorry was left "welded" to the Tarmac.
Inrix, the traffic data company, said: ""The M25 was closed for eight hours until just after just after 12pm. Lanes three and four (of four) now open past the scene, but it will take hours to clean-up and resurface (after the fire welded the lorry to the tarmac)."
'Traffic easing'
Inrix has issued a new update which says: "Traffic easing, earlier lorry fire on M25 anticlockwise between J9 A243 (Leatherhead) and J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate). Previous congestion to back towards J10 (A3 Wisley interchange)."
All lanes back open but delays remain
Inrix says: "Queueing traffic due to earlier lorry fire on M25 anticlockwise between J9 A243 (Leatherhead) and J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate). Congestion to back towards J10 (A3 Wisley interchange). All lanes have been re-opened. The road is now clear, after a lorry fire closed lanes for most of the day. Delays remain."
