An investigation into the large fire that broke out at the former Krystals nightclub in Leicester city centre has continued into Wednesday. Church Gate, Gravel Street, and St Margaret's Bus Station are all still closed as fire crews remain on site following the major incident, according to Leicestershire fire and Rescue Service this morning.
The nightclub has previously been called Liquid/Envy, Blueprint and Arkade, and a number of roads were closed for most of yesterday to allow the emergency services to work in safety. Burleys Way and other nearby main roads have since reopened.
Some businesses were unable to open yesterday while residents and those in other nearby buildings were advised to keep their windows and doors closed. Thick smoke and flames could be seen across Leicester coming from the site.
Now, Crime Scene Investigators and Fire Investigation are set to return to the site to conduct enquiries into the blaze - with some disruption still to be expected throughout Wednesday.
A previous version of this story said the Haymarket bus station was closed. This is not the case and it is, of course, St Margaret's bus station which has been affected. We apologise for the error
Police investigate cause of blaze
Police officers are carrying out further enquiries into the cause of the fire, a spokeswoman for the force has confirmed. It follows an inquiry by the fire service which was inconclusive.
It means the cause of the fire is still unknown. Senior fire office, Matthew Cane, told LeicestershireLive that the level of damage to the building made their investigation "difficult"
Meanwhile, a Leicester City Council-contracted firm will be undertaking demolition work to remove the dangerous parts of the gutted former nightclub. The council said the work is likely to take three days.
What is happening at the scene?
Fire crews will be leaving the scene today, returning periodically to ensure fires do not flare up during the demolition work, senior fire officer, Matthew Cane told LeicestershireLive.
Images and video footage we shared of demolition work earlier showed contractors moving parts of the damaged building to give firefighters access to remaining hot spots.
'Bus station unscathed'
Councillor Adam Clarke, deputy city mayor for Environment and Transportation has thanked those who have helped keep bus services running, despite the disruption.
In a comment on Twitter, he said, "Our net zero carbon bus station survived yesterday’s fire which gutted a nearby building and is now back open.
"Thanks to everyone who minimised the disruption to bus operations and to those that were disrupted.
"Thankfully the building appears to have come out of it unscathed."

St Margaret's Bus Station partially reopened

Gravel Street and Church Gate in the city centre are still closed to traffic after yesterday's incident, and some buses are still being diverted.
Find an update on services and where they were running from in the next post.
Demolition underway
Watch as the former nightclub is brought down by demolition crews. The fire on Tuesday, October 4, left the building unsafe and partially collapsed.
