A 16-year-old boy was treated by emergency services at the scene on Droylsden Road, in Audenshaw, before being taken to hospital

Emergency services have rushed out to a busy Tameside road following a crash involving a 16-year-old boy. The A662 Droylsden Road, in Audenshaw, is currently closed in both directions near the border with Droylsden.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) says the crash involves a vehicle which hit a tram post on North Drive, which took place at around 8pm tonight (October 15). The boy was rescued by firefighters.

Police and paramedics are also at the scene. Witnesses have reported seeing more than 30 emergency service vehicles at the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 8pm this evening (Saturday, October 15), two fire engines from Ashton and Philips Park fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit were called to reports of a vehicle colliding into a tram post on North Drive, Audenshaw.

"Firefighters used specialist equipment to make the area safe. Firefighters have been in attendance for around an hour and are still at the scene.”

The closure is affecting Metrolink services along the Ashton line. In a post on Twitter, a Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: "A662 Droylsden Rd, Droylsden is closed due to a police incident.

"Metrolink services are unable to operate between Droylsden and Ashton-under-Lyne, passengers can use their tickets on 216 bus services." The closure follows an incident between Kershaw Lane and Manchester Road, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.

Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have also been approached for comment.
