A serious traffic accident involving multiple vehicles resulted in the closure of a main road through a town. In Burton the A511 Horninglow Road around Hunter Street was closed and the incident caused heavy traffic in the surrounding area.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported that the crash happened around midnight last night and that police were on site. Local reports suggested at least one vehicle had left the road and crashed into one of the residential properties.

A man has sadly died following a road traffic collision in Northumberland.

Shortly after 2pmuon Saturday, Northumbria Police received a report of a collision between a car and motorcycle on the A698 Wideopen Plantation Junction. Officers and emergency services attended the scene and found a male motorcyclist on the road but the 69-year-old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and police are now appealing for any witnesses, especially anyone who might have dashcam footage, to come forward.

Sergeant Ray Lowery, from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department is asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has information that may assist the ongoing investigation, to come forward.

He said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the man’s family and friends at this time.

“An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we’re asking for anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch, especially if you were travelling in the area and may have some information that could help our enquiries.




A motorcyclist has died in a crash with a car on a rural road.

Emergency services were called to the A698, near the Wideopen Plantation junction, in Northumberland, just after 14:00 BST on Saturday.

The motorcyclist, a 69-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to get in touch.



Heversham crash: Motorcyclist's death leaves 'gaping hole' in family


A death of motorcyclist in a collision with a van has "left a gaping hole" in the hearts of his family, a tribute has said.

Curtis Banks, 22, from Milnthorpe, Cumbria, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A6 at Heversham on Friday.

Cumbria Constabulary is appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved a Honda 25cc and a Ford panel van.

Mr Banks' family paid tribute to their "beautiful boy, with the most beautiful soul, who was loved by everyone".

The statement added: "He has left a gaping hole in our hearts that will never be filled and we are truly broken. "
